At Quintilian, we offer a warm, nurturing home-like atmosphere, where children feel comfortable to explore their curiosity and make new discoveries, creating a natural transition into learning.
We embrace the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), focusing on the essential elements of Belonging, Being and Becoming and our approach is centred on recognising and responding to the individuality of every student, fostering warm and caring relationships between staff and children.
We recognise the significance of early childhood learning as the foundation for future educational endeavours and our belief is that childhood is a precious time to be valued and enjoyed.
We place high importance on children’s play, understanding that play-based learning environments are optimal for engaging and educating young minds. Your child’s social and emotional development is at the forefront of our programme and play is the primary vehicle for learning.
Real-life and nature-based experiences are also highly valued at Quintilian so incursions or a day out on the bus are integral parts of learning.
Quintilian is a place where our children feel confident to be curious, to explore, take risks and express their feelings safely.
Quintilian School offers:
Pre-Kindy: 2 or 3-days
Kindy: 3, 4 or 5-days
Pre-Primary: 5 days (this is the first year of official, full-time schooling)
Our Early Childhood Centre is separate from the older children and provides safety and security as children develop their confidence and independence.
In the lower years of primary school, children consolidate skills across academics, social awareness and creativity. Physical development is also emphasised, alongside teamwork and movement skills, with several before and after school sports activities on offer such as tennis, soccer, floorball, netball and lacrosse.
Creative skills and techniques are developed and nurtured in all forms, such as performing arts or the visual arts, and a love of music is fostered via weekly music lessons. Specialist private music lessons are also available and include piano, guitar, drums and vocals, which can all be done during the school day.
The lower primary years provide a balanced education, nurturing growth in all areas. At Quintilian, we create a supportive and engaging environment where children are encouraged to explore, develop confidence and reach their full potential.
For most children, the middle years of primary school is a time for consolidation. Teachers introduce a wide range of activities to help promote skill development, social interaction and teamwork to enable your child to develop a more sophisticated understanding of their place in the classroom and world around them.
Information technology becomes an integral part of the classroom experience to ensure high-level skills are mastered. Touch typing is introduced into the curriculum and children are encouraged to develop correct technique so that they can work with speed and accuracy. All classrooms have interactive smart boards and access to iPads, but screentime is minimised as we do not offer 1:1 devices.
Innovative technologies such as 3D printers are also available to further support our inquiry-based learning approach and provides hands-on, real-world learning opportunities for our students.
French lessons, incorporating language and culture, also begin in Year 3.
In Quintilian’s upper primary years, students refine their skills to prepare for secondary education. Core subjects like Mathematics and Literacy are taught in flexible groups to provide both support and extension, with many students excelling beyond primary-level expectations and securing scholarships or placements in academic extension programs.
Students can participate in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) competition across multiple subjects. Specialist teachers lead Music, French, and Library sessions, while physical education extends beyond regular lessons to include various team sports and Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) carnivals.
Camps play a key role in fostering independence throughout Quintilian’s primary years and culminates in a seven-night Year 6 trip to the Kimberley. Our upper primary students also take on leadership responsibilities, including a ‘Buddy’ system to mentor younger peers.
A diverse range of co-curricular clubs enriches student life, including Art, Band, Chess, Choir, Coding, Drama and Sustainability. These opportunities ensure well-rounded development, preparing students for future success.
