Years 1 and 2 are a period of tremendous growth. In Lower Primary at Quintilian, students build on the strong foundations established in the early years, transitioning from learning to read to reading to learn, and from counting to calculating with confidence. This is a time to solidify core skills while nurturing the curious minds that drive a lifelong love of learning. Our approach is structured, supportive, and designed to ensure every child experiences the joy of achievement.

We continue to follow the Western Australian Curriculum with rigour and care. Key academic concepts in literacy and numeracy are taught explicitly, then enriched and connected through an inquiry-based approach.

Specialist areas (including Science, The Arts, Music, Physical Education and Technologies) are woven together with classroom learning. This creates an immersive, real-world educational experience where children see how their skills and knowledge apply across subjects and into the world around them.

With our small class sizes, our experienced educators have the time and insight to know each child as a learner. Teaching is tailored to meet students at their precise point of need through a mix of:

Through our Outdoor Classroom program and ongoing partnership with the Friends of Lake Claremont, students experience the natural world firsthand. These real-world experiences, such as tree planting and bushland observation, connect indoor learning with its environmental impacts, fostering a sense of responsibility and community connection. It is learning that is both meaningful and memorable.

Building Independence, One Step at a Time

Lower Primary is also a time for personal growth. Students take their first major step towards independence with their first away-from-home school camp, a safe and supportive experience that builds resilience, strengthens friendships and creates lasting memories.
