Our kindergarten class has been drawing with light.
This term the Sheddies have been exploring light. During their exploration, it became apparent that many of them were intrigued by torches and tried to draw pictures with them on the large pieces of white material hanging from the ceiling. This sparked a thought, and the Sheddies were asked…
“Do you think you can draw with light?”
Some Sheddies immediately replied, “No!” until one Sheddie said, “Lightning lights up the sky!”
This made the children ponder the question longer, and the ideas started flowing!
Vienna: Fireworks explode!
Adeline: You can make shadows with the light.
Stijn: There are a lot of lights in the city.
Tim: There are one hundred lights in Sydney.
Aston: I saw the stadium bridge with lights.
Adam: There are more lights in Hungary!
They had successfully challenged themselves to draw a picture using light. What would they use? How would they capture it?
Adam: A camera!
Tim: Torches, the one in the light area!
Did it need to be dark or light to draw with light?
Kurtis: Dark!
Maple: We can go in the tent!
Armed with a torch, camera, tripod, black material and a tent, the class were off to set up their light drawing area. Once they had covered the tent with the black material and made sure there were no gaps for the light to creep through, they each had a turn at making the torch dance about. The results were magical!
“Wow!” exclaimed Jake when he looked at his photograph. “That is amazing!”
