Rottnest Family Camp

What is the Rottnest Family Camp all about?

The annual Quintilian Rottnest Family Camp has been running for over 24 years and has become a popular way for our Quintilian community to get to know each other and have some fun together. Many bring their whole family including those children too young to have started school yet, or older siblings who are now in secondary school and there is always something for everyone to enjoy.

Regularly over 100 families participate in a wonderful weekend of outdoor activities: picnics,  BBQs,  bike rides, sandcastle building competition and the ever-popular Golden Quokka Hunt (we don’t really hunt Quokkas – it’s a treasure hunt for all the family).

Many of the teaching staff also join in with their students and families.

Rottnest is a fabulous place for parents to allow their children (especially the older ones) greater levels of freedom which is often more difficult to do in a fast paced, highly urbanised city life. Bring, or hire, bikes to make sure you can take full advantage of the island and the activities!

Quintilian Family Rottnest Camp – 2022
Friday 13 – Sunday 15 May 2022

When is it?

The 2022 Family Camp will run from the afternoon of Friday 13 – Sunday 15 May 2022. The School is open on the Friday – formal classes finish at 12:15pm however, full supervision continues until 3:15pm for those children who are catching a later ferry or not attending the camp at all.

Many families and staff travel over to Rottnest on the Friday afternoon ferry. However, it is entirely up to you as to when you go and how long you wish to stay. Some families can only do day trips due to other commitments or circumstances, others stay the whole weekend.

Please inform your class teacher of your travel intentions/length of stay as early as possible, so adequate school supervision can be organised.

Rottnest Essential Guide

Year Group Gatherings – your class reps will be in touch to let you know where and when your year group are having their get-together. Often families will be asked to bring a plate of food and drinks to a particular house, alternatively your group might opt to meet at the pub for dinner.

How do we book?

Accommodation can be booked over the phone or online. It is recommend doing it by telephone  9432 9111 as you can book a specific villa or a specific bungalow.  Online, one can only book a certain type of accommodation with a certain number of beds in a particular “area”. Speak to other families in your class and it is fun if you can try and stay nearby, especially good for the young kiddies in the early primary years. To reduce costs some families share accommodation which can be loads of fun!

Accommodation: Families select and book their own accommodation through the Rottnest Island Authority.  Check with your Class Reps/others in your class to see if your year group are intending to stay in a particular settlement on the island.
